How to diagnose air-conditioning problems?
If your air conditioner is giving you trouble then you may need to an air conditioning service company but before you do here is a checklist you can run through of the usual suspects when it comes to troublesome air conditioners. It may sound obvious but one of the first things to do if your air conditioner is not running at all is to check the thermostat temperature setting. It is amazing how often this is the cause of air conditioner ‘trouble’. If you have called an air conditioner service and it ends up being the thermostat setting it is a costly mistake, so it pays to check this first.
Still having trouble…
If it is still not going then check that the unit is on, remember that the remote is powered by batteries so even if it is going it does not mean the unit is. Also, even if the internal unit is, sometimes the external compressor has a separate power source, so check that as well and check the fuse box. Again, although this is obvious, it is one of the most common problems air conditioner servicing workers are called out to fix.
If the air conditioner is working but not very well then the first thing you should do is check the filters on the internal unit. Often they get blocked. If they are ok then you need to go out and check the external compressor to make sure nothing is obstructing it.
If you are still having problems then you need to call a professional air conditioner service!!!
